Getting the balance right

Getting the balance right

We had a great photowalk (or photoboatridemooch) in London yesterday. Instead of sticking to one area we took a trip down the river on the Thames Clipper, getting off when we fancied, having a drink onboard a couple of times and generally just dossing around the city.

This is some detail from Ampersand by Luka Boonkerd Kaewdee who stands guard at the entrance to Hyde Park.  One of my favourite eles. Tweet This Post

Keeping an eye out…

Keeping an eye out…

I can’t quite decide if I like this photo or not.  I quite like the elephant (Mumbai Indians by Lalit Modi) looking down on the camera and then Nelson looking down on the elephant.  I’ve tried cropping a few different ways.  But I think this is the angle I prefer.   Having said that – I […]

The Green Park Parade

The Green Park Parade

Another successful elephant hunt this week – especially as the first eles I found were this happy herd in Green Park. This particular group was headed by Tara by Mark Shand – founder of Elephant Family.  Most (if not all) of the elephants in this parade have been sponsored by charities working in the field […]

Elephants on Elephants on Parade

Elephants on Elephants on Parade

Each of the elephants dotted around London are wonderful pieces of art – some are more intricately designed than others.  This is some of the detail from No More Plundering by Milo Tchais. Tweet This Post

Err…Crikey…Heffalumps

Err…Crikey…Heffalumps

This pretty lady is Tearoses by Narongrit Asokwattana and – along with several other of the elephants parade – she lives just outside City Hall.  I love the idea of Boris looking out of his office window and seeing all these elephants surrounding him.  I imagine him having the blunderbuss ready to defend London’s democracy […]

Reflections of democracy

Reflections of democracy

This was taken on an evening photowalk last year.  I was struggling with taking photos in the fading light so I turned my attention to the reflections of buildings and lights in the Thames.  This is the reflection of the Houses of Parliament with the lights from the terrace particularly bright. The big beasts

The big beasts

Two weeks after the election and the political big beasts are still parading around the streets of London.  Poor Mr Brown has been relegated to the back and Mr Clegg is (for the moment) very prominent. Darren has told me he particularly likes this shot as the elephants look like an integral part of the […]

Time for Peace

Time for Peace

One day in as Prime Minister and already people have personalised banners for David Cameron’s attention.  Not sure though if he was watching the trees outside his office… Tweet This Post

Burma’s Eye

Burma’s Eye

In addition to raising awareness of the plight of the Asian Elephant many of the individual elephants are also either sponsored on behalf of other charities or asking us to think about different causes. This is Burma by Baccara Smart.  I don’t know if she is deliberately trying to highlight the human rights abuses in […]

Watching the News

Watching the News

College Green outside Parliament has been busy over the past few days with the formation of the new government.  When I popped down the day after the coalition was agreed and just after the Rose Garden Cameron/Clegg press conference it was impossible to take a photo without people wandering about in front of me.  (Others […]

The Elephant Parade

The Elephant Parade

All across London life-size baby elephant statues are popping up.  The Elephant Parade is raising awareness of plight of the Asian Elephant which is facing extinction due to threat to its habitat and human/elephant conflict. There are 258 elephants across London and I made a start the other day on visiting them all. It wasn’t […]
